Syphilis

Syphilis is a bacterial infection. It is not very common in the UK. The first sign of syphilis is a painless lump or sore usually found on the genitals, mouth or anus. In the secondry stage of syphilis you may feel generally unwell with flu like symptoms and a rash. This may occur around four to eight weeks after the lump.

If syphilis goes untreated it can cause damage to the heart, lungs and nervous system. It is easily treated with antibiotics.
